Darling [2]

Darling, größter Nebenfluß des Murray in Australien und mit 2870 km längster Fluß des Erdteils, entsteht aus den Quellflüssen Culgoa (von seiner nur 96 km von der Ostküste entfernten Quelle in den Darling Downs Condamine genannt) und Barwan, der links den Macintyre, Gwydir, Namoi, Castlereagh, Macquarie und Bogan empfängt, nimmt, südwestlich fließend, (aber nur höchst selten) den Warrego auf, wendet sich dann südlich und mündet bei Wentworth in den Murray. Bei Hochwasser gehen Dampfer bis über Bourke (an der Eisenbahn nach Sydney) hinaus. An seinen Ufern wird nur Viehzucht betrieben; doch sind bereits mehrere ansehnliche Ortschaften (Bourke, Wilcannia, Menindie, Wentworth) entstanden.
