Aimard

Aimard (spr. ēmār), Gustave, franz. Romanschriftsteller, geb. 13. Sept. 1818 in Paris, gestorben daselbst geisteskrank 20. Juni 1883, kam im Knabenalter als Schiffsjunge nach Amerika, wo er eine Reihe von Jahren unter den wilden Völkerschaften des Westens zubrachte, durchwanderte später Spanien, die Türkei und den Kaukasus und kehrte 1848 nach Paris zurück. Nach neuen Reisen errang er sich durch seine spannenden Erzählungen, die Coopers Indianergeschichten nachgeahmt sind, einen Ruf. Wir nennen von seinen zahlreichen (meist auch ins Deutsche übersetzten und für die Jugend bearbeiteten) Romanen: »Les trappeurs de l'Arkansas« (1858), eine der volkstümlichsten Schriften dieser Gattung; »Le grand chef des Aucas« (1858); »Les pirates de la prairie« (1859); »Les bohêmes de la mer« (1865); »Les scalpeurs blancs« (1873).
