Columbĭa, Name mehrerer Städte in den Vereinigten Staaten von Nordamerika: 1) Hauptstadt des Staates Südcarolina, an den untersten Fällen des Congaree, der hier für Dampfer schiffbar wird, Eisenbahnknotenpunkt, hat breite Straßen, ein schönes Kapitol, Rathaus, Markthalle, Zuchthaus, Irrenhaus, eine Universität, 2 theologische Seminare, bedeutenden Baumwollhandel und (1900) 21,108 Einw., darunter viele Farbige. – 2) Stadt in der Grafschaft Lancaster in Pennsylvanien, am Susquehanna, mit 1866 m langer Brücke, 54 km unterhalb Harrisburg, hat lebhaften Handel mit Bauholz, Eisenwerke und (1900) 12,316 Einw. – 3) Hauptort der Grafschaft Maury in Tennessee, am Duck River, 55 km südsüdwestlich von Nashville, mit (1900) 6052 Einw., höhern Schulen (Jackson College, Female Academy etc.). – 4) Hauptort der Grafschaft Boone in Missouri, nordwestlich von Jefferson City, mit Staatsuniversität, lebhaftem Handel und (1900) 5651 Einw. – 5) Hauptort der Grafschaft Whitley im Staat Indiana, mit höherer Schule und (1900) 2975 Einw.
