Chamberlen

Chamberlen (spr. tschēm-), Peter, der Sohn eines aus Frankreich nach England ausgewanderten Hugenotten, war 1598 Mitglied der Barber Surgeons Company in London und starb 1631 als Chirurg der Königin zu Downe in Kent. Er erfand eine Geburtszange, die 200 Jahre in der Familie als Geheimnis bewahrt wurde. Vgl. Aveling, The Chamberlens and the midwifery forceps (Lond. 1882).
