Ceiba

Ceiba Gärtn. (Ceibabaum), Gattung der Bombakazeen, sehr große Bäume mit gefingerten Blättern, mäßig großen oder stattlichen, einzeln oder gehäuft stehenden Blüten, die außen oft mit weicher Wolle bedeckt sind, und lederartiger, fünfklappig aufspringender Kapsel, in der die Samen in reichlicher Wolle gebettet sind. Neun Arten meist im heißen Amerika. C. pentandra Gärtn. (Eriodendron aufractuosum D. C., Wollbaum, Baumwollbaum), s. Tafel »Faserpflanzen II«.
