Carayon (spr. -räjóng), Auguste, franz. Geschichtschreiber, geb. 31. März 1813 in Saumur, gest. 15. Mai 1874 in Poitiers, ward Jesuit und erwarb sich durch Untersuchungen über die Geschichte seines Ordens einen geachteten Namen. Seine Hauptwerke sind: »Documents inédits concernant la compagnie de Jésus« (1863–86, 23 Bde.); »Bibliographie historique de la compagnie de Jésus« (1864), ein Katalog aller auf die Geschichte der Jesuiten vom Ursprung des Ordens an bezüglichen Werke; »Premières missions des Jésuites an Canada« (1864); »Bannissement des Jésuites de la Louisiane« (1865); »Établissement de Ia compagnie de Jésus à Brest par Louis XIV« (1865); »Prisons du marquis de Pombal, ministre du portugal« (1865), ein Tagebuch von 1759–77 enthaltend, und »Notes historiques sur les parlements et les Jésuites an XVIII. siècle« (1867).
