Black River

Black River (spr. bläck riww'r, »schwarzer Fluß«), Name mehrerer Flüsse in Nordamerika. 1) Der B. des Staates New York, über 200 km, sammelt die westlichen Abflüsse des Adirondackgebirges, hat bei Turin einen 20 m hohen Wasserfall und zahlreiche, die Schiffahrt hindernde Stromschnellen, mündet unterhalb Watertown in die Black River-Bai des Ontariosees. – 2) Der B. von Michigan ist ein schnellenreicher rechtsseitiger Nebenfluß des Saint Clair River (s.d.), mit tiefer Mündung, die als Verladungshafen von Port Huron dient. – 3) Der B. von Missouri und Arkansas entströmt dem Ozarkgebirge, ist von Pine Bluff 540 km weit schiffbar und mündet bei Newport in den White River (s.d.). – 4) Der B. von Louisiana entsteht durch die Vereinigung des Washita und Tensas (s. Mississippi).
