Billing, 1) Gottfrid, schwed. Theolog und Politiker, geb. 29. April 1841 im Kirchspiel Önnestad (Schonen), war seit 1865 in Lund als Gymnasial- und Universitätslehrer, Prediger und Mitglied der theologischen Examenskommission tätig und ward 1884 zum Bischof des lutherischen Stifts Westerås, 1885 zum Oberhofprediger ernannt. Seit 1898 ist er Bischof von Lund. Seit 1888 Mitglied der Ersten Reichstagskammer, spielt B. als anerkannter Führer der christlich-sozialen Richtung der Hochkonservativen und glänzender Redner im parlamentarischen u. kirchlichen veben Schwedens eine bedeutsame Rolle. Von seinen formvollendeten Abhandlungen seien erwähnt: »Försök till utläggning af Habakuks profetia« (1865); »Några ord såsom inledning till den Heliga skrift« (1865, 4. Aufl. 1880); »Om sacramentum och sacrificium i den lutherska culten« (1869); »Kateketikens begrepp« (2. Aufl. 1873); »Om den sköna Herrens gudstjenst« (1874, 5. Aufl. 1894), »Olikheten bland Jesu vänner« (Bd. 1, 2. Aufl. 1875, auch dänisch; Bd. 2, 1875); »Lutherska kyrkans bekännelse« (1876–78); »Katekesutläggning« (1883–1884); »En årgång högmässopredikningar« (1887); »Kort katekesförklaring« (1897–98). Seit 1900 ist B. Mitglied der schwedischen Akademie.
