Winnipeg, Hauptstadt der kanad. Provinz Manitoba, an der Mündung des Assiniboine in den nördlichen Red River und an der Kanadischen Pacificbahn und zahlreichen andern Bahnen, inmitten fruchtbarer Prärien, Sitz eines deutschen Konsuls, der Universität von Manitoba, mit Museum, Eisenbahnwerkstätten, großen Mühlen, bedeutendem Holz- und Weizenhandel und (1901) 42,336 Einw. (1871 erst 741, 1891: 25,642). Gegenüber liegt St. Boniface mit kath. Kathedrale.
