Theodahad (Theodat), König der Ostgoten, geb. um 490, gest. im Herbst 536, Sohn von Theoderichs d. Gr. Schwester Amalafrida und letzter männlicher Sproß des Amalergeschlechts, Graf von Tuscien, Großgrundbesitzer und durchaus romanisiert, ward von Amalasvintha nach ihres Sohnes Athalarich Tode (2. Okt. 534) zum Mitherrscher erkoren, obwohl er wegen seiner Habsucht verhaßt war und Etruriens wegen in verräterischer Verbindung mit Konstantinopel gestanden hatte. T. ließ, gereizt durch Amalasvinthas Verachtung, diese 30. April 535 auf einer Insel des Bolsener Sees gefangen setzen und im Bad ermorden, benahm sich, als Belisar das Ostgotenreich angriff, feig, erbot sich, außer Sizilien auch die Herrschaft über die Römer in Italien, ja sogar die über die Goten gegen eine jährliche Rente von 1200 Pfund Gold an Justinian abzutreten, nahm kurz danach diese Zugeständnisse wieder zurück, blieb aber untätig und ward auf der Flucht nach Ravenna von dem Goten Optari ermordet.
