Tembuland

Tembuland, Distrikt der brit. Kapkolonie, ihr als Tambukiland 1877 (definitiv 1885) einverleibt und 1894 durch West- und Ost-Pondoland vergrößert, an der Südostküste, durchflossen vom Bashee und Umtata, 10,676 qkm mit (1891) 180,415 Einw., darunter 5179 Weiße, 150,713 Amatembukaffern, 582 Hottentotten und 22,703 Fingu, ein für Ackerbau und Viehzucht (besonders Schafe) vorzüglich geeignetes Land, das auch Kohlenlager (bei Indwe) enthält. Hauptort ist Umtata (1500 Einw.).
