Talfourd

Talfourd (spr. taolförd), Sir Thomas Noon, engl. Dichter, geb. 26. Jan. 1795 in Doxey bei Stafford, gest. daselbst 13. März 1854, widmete sich der juristischen Laufbahn, vertrat 1834–43 Reading im Parlament, machte sich hier durch das Einbringen und die Verteidigung der Copyright bill bekannt, wurde 1849 zum Richter am Court of Common Pleas ernannt und starb während einer Anrede an den großen Gerichtshof. Berühmt wurde T. durch seine TrauerspieleDramatical works«, 11. Ausg. 1852), deren erstes: »Ion«, zugleich sein bestes, 1836 zur ersten Ausführung kam. Außerdem schrieb er politische und belletristische Werke, darunter: »The life of Charles Lamb« (neue Ausg. von Fitzgerald, 1891) und »Vacation rambles and thoughts« (3. Aufl. 1851, Suppl. 1854).
