Sétif (das alte Sitifis), Stadt im alger. Depart. Konstantine, am Südostfuß des Dschebel Anini (1540 m), an der Eisenbahn Algier-Tunis, 1085 m ü. M., mit Gerichtshof, Kirche, Museum römischer Altertümer, Kaserne, Hospital; starker Handel mit Pferden, Mauleseln, Schlachtvieh, Wolle, Getreide etc., die in der fruchtbaren Medschana-Ebene vorkommen, und (1901) 9281 (als Gemeinde 15,419) Einw. Zur Römerzeit war S. als Sitifis Colonia bedeutend und später Hauptstadt der Provinz Mauretania Sitifensis.
