Rath, Dorf im preuß. Regbez. und Landkreis Düsseldorf, Knotenpunkt der Staatsbahnlinien Speldorf-Mühlheim a. Rh., R.-Kupferdreh u. a., hat eine evangelische und 3 kath. Kirchen, ein Schloß (Roland) mit Park, eine Anstalt für weibliche Epileptische, die deutsch-österreichischen Mannesmann-Röhrenwalzwerke mit ca. 1650 Arbeitern, die Rheinische Metallwarenfabrik (ca. 750 Arbeiter), Röhrenkessel-, Maschinen-, Gummi- und Bauartikelfabrikation, Marmorschleiferei, Dampfziegeleien und (1905) 11,231 (1880 erst 1977) meist kath. Einwohner. – Ein Königshof in R. wird schon im 13. Jahrh. erwähnt. R. kam 1248 an die Grafen von Berg.
