Prichard

Prichard (spr. prittschĕrd), James Cowles, Physiolog, geb. 11. Febr. 1786 in Roß (Herefordshire), gest. 22. Er schrieb: »Researches into the physical history of mankind« (Lond. 1813; 4. Aufl. 1841–51, 5 Bde.; deutsch, Leipz. 1840–48, 4 Bde.); »Natural history of man« (1842; 4. Aufl. von Norris 1855, 2 Bde.; deutsch von R. Wagner und Will, Leipz. 1840–48, 4 Bde.); »The eastern origin of the Celtic nations« (1831; neue Ausg. von Latham, 1857); »Analysis of Egyptian mythology« (1819, 2. Aufl. 1838; deutsch von A. W. v. Schlegel, Bonn 1837); »Review of the doctrine of a vital principle, as maintained by some writers on physiology« (1829); »Treatise on insanity« (1835); »On the different forms of insanity in relation to jurisprudence« (1842).
