Pekah

Pekah (hebr. Peka ch), König von Israel 748–728, nach andrer Zeitrechnung 736–704 v. Chr., Sohn Remaljas, hatte sich nach einer Palastrevolution und Ermordung Pekajahs (s. d.) des Throns bemächtigt, den er hart und grausam zu behaupten wußte. Er schloß mit benachbarten Fürsten ein Bündnis gegen Assyrien, führte gegen Juda den syrisch-ephraimitischen Krieg (734/3), unterlag aber später den Assyrern unter Tiglat-Pileser und ward von Hosea (s. d. 2), seinem Nachfolger, ermordet.
